“Private investigator Matthew Scudder is hired by a drug kingpin to find out who kidnapped and murdered his wife.”
A Walk Among The Tombstones from the outside could look like just a different version of his Taken character. However, what we have here is a slow burning, dark tale of a broken man who digs deep down within himself to find it in him to do one last good deed. On his way we really get to see all the demons that haunt a man like him,and we are also reminded of the kind of filth that still roams this Earth. This is a pretty dark movie, with dark themes and some dark imagery, but it isn’t over done. I was waiting for that moment when I would have to look away from the screen, but I never did. What was shown was necessary and anything else was simply suggested, and thankfully for that. In some ways it plays as any standard thriller, but don’t let that take away from the fact that it is a very solid thriller. It will keep you attention. The acting is also very solid, especially from Astro who played his role very, very well. Liam Neeson is also just different enough from his Taken role to not have that identity clash with this one. All in all if you like thrillers, you will like this movie, just don’t expect any life changing experiences.
