Don’t Miss It!

Chappie :

Set to come out shortly, ( March 2015 ) Chappie chronicles the story of what it truly means to be a sentient being vis A.I. It’s most definitely a story we have seen and heard before in one way or the other, but coming from the mind of director Neill Blomkamp, with his specific style and aesthetic can most certainly bring something really special to this tale. The film also features Hugh Jackman, and Sharlto Copley who had worked with Blomkamp before to great effect in both District 9 and Elysium. This kind of grimy sic-fi is what Blomkamp has really made his name on, and he is a master at world building. So what do you think? Does Chappie sound like something you shouldn’t miss? Did you know about it and are you eager to see it? Here is the most recent trailer.

Oscars Reaction (2015)

So these are my views and reactions to the results of the 87th annual Academy Awards. I’m gonna go over most of the categories and say what i like, don’t like, and just my general opinions.

So first off, i have to say I am really glad at all the wins for The Grand Budapest Hotel, i really love that movie, and if you saw my film rankings for 2014 you know it was my NUMBA ONE! Now I’m going into the categories one by one, for most of them.

Visual Effects :

Winner – Interstellar

Should have won – Dawn of the planets of the apes.

I mean this one is a no brainer, as much as i really love the visuals of Interstellar, i really can’t imagine an argument that it did something better than, or over what was achieved with Dawn.

Animated Feature :

Winner – Big Hero 6

Should have won – HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2

COME F@#%ING ON GUYS!!!! How in the hell, does Big Hero 6, that honestly could have not even been in this category, and then let it WIN. This just goes to show that they take this category as a complete joke, and only base this on which seemed to be the most successful which is dog shit. I say seemed because BH6 made about 545 million and HTTYD2 made about 615 million, but Big Hero Shits made more money in america, i.e. the academy went well i guess it must be better. Pack of BALLS.

Those are my MAJOR grievances, so now we can run over the ones i got right and wrong without all the ranting :).

So all in all i went 12/19, oh well. When all is said and done, I was really glad for The Grand Budapest Hotel and Whiplash, for their wins, they really deserved it. I don’t think American Sniper should have won ANYTHING. I though the animation category was a travesty, and there were some surprises thrown in there that i didn’t see coming but wasn’t upset over. What did you think of the awards? Agree with the winners and how many picks did you get right?

Review : 50 Shades of Grey

“Literature student Anastasia Steele’s life changes forever when she meets handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey.”

So… this movie, is not what I expected. Firstly those much talked about sex scenes are okay, I wasn’t ever offended or shocked, or impressed or anything like that. They are there, there is a lot of it, but that’s about all to me, but maybe I’m not the target audience. The story however is what I didn’t expect. The Character of Anastasia Steele played by Dakota Johnson is truly the best part of the movie. She plays her role very well here, but that also plays into a problem I have with the movie, and that is just how good she is at everything. For one she’s an amazing flirt, and really good in her own methods of manipulation ( btw was I really supposed to believe she was a virgin?). For a lot of the movie you see two of them playing this game, that should be much more one sided, but is not. Then there is the question of the more “abusive” parts of the story. Like I said before, none of it offended me, but I have to think would she have put up with it if his ass wasn’t a billionaire? Beyond those things however there really isn’t that much in this movie. No crazy money and sex and this movie would just be a Rom-Com, but I know it’s going to make a shit tonne of money, even though it’s a not that good movie spawned of Twilight fan fiction.

Review : Jupiter Ascending

“In a bright and colorful future, a young destitute caretaker gets targeted by the ruthless son of a powerful family who lives on a planet in need of a new heir, so she travels with a genetically engineered warrior to the planet in order to stop his tyrant “

The best way to describe this movie is, it’s so pretty to look at, doesn’t make too much sense. Let me explain. So all of the visuals in this movie are seriously on point. When the film was first delayed, we were told it was to ad more special effects, so cheers I guess. That was never going to a surprise as this is from the people who brought us The Matrix and films like Speed Racer, that even if you didn’t like, they were damn good to look at. The story itself however, does need some work. Many of the plot points seem to serve no real purpose other than to make Channing Tatum do more cool ass gravity boots shit (he was also for some reason, not just a space werewolf, but a space werewolf albino runt). That kind of thing sums up the major flaw with this movie, a lot of things happen for no real reason that makes sense, and that happens for the ENTIRE movie, just one random act after another. Then we have Eddie Redmayne, and, well, we all know you can act, so I won’t hold this movie against you. That’s all I’m going to say about him. So all in all this is a very average plot, couples with some very good visuals, and not much more.

Review : Kingsman The Secret Service

“A spy organization recruits an unrefined, but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.”

Remember the name Taron Egerton, because he is going to BLOW UP. Kingsman is a truly first class, kickass, layer cake of action, adventure and comedy (who got those Matthew Vaughn jokes?). The directing style of Matthew Vaughn is truly perfectly suited for a movie like this that needs to be visceral and sharp, yet be able to go over the top when necessary. This movie is also just as long as it needs to be, paced perfectly, and acted superbly. Every role here is superbly cast, and Egerton does really well to hold his own against people like Colin Firth and Mark Strong.Colin Firth is also very impressive here, with some very good stunt work. In the vein of movies like John Wick, Kingsman knows exactly what it is, and it brings the entertainment from start to finish, with surprises around every corner. If you like no holds bared action, witty satire, with great timing and direction, you can’t go wrong with Kingsman. Some people who aren’t familiar with Matthew Vaughn’s work might find some parts of the movie to be a bit strange, or a little too off the wall, but it fits this story perfectly and only ads to the overall narrative and world building done here. You WILL want to see it more than once.

SpiderMan back in the MCU

Yes, finally, the rumours have turned to truth. In a landmark move, Sony have decided to, while retaining the rights for, allow Marvel to use the character of SiperMan in their cinematic universe going forward. So yes from now on Marvel can use him when and where they like for the most part, but Sony will still retain his rights, in terms of creative control, financing and distribution. We also know that both companies plan on re-casting the role as well. So what does this really mean going forward? It means for one that fan boys across the world all just had to change their pants. It means certain story lines that we always wanted to see how they would be adapted, now don’t have to go through the major changes we would have expected. It means we could even see a different SpierMan, like a Miles Morales SpiderMan even. It also means that Sony and Marvel can have their cake and eat it too. sony can now piggy back on the good name of Marvel, but they can still make a butt load of money holding on to his rights, while Marvel will ALSO be able to ramp up their box office with the addition of the web slinger.

Don’t Miss It!

Crimson Peak :

From the deep, dark, twisted, wonderful mind of  Guillermo del Toro. The man who brought us such films as, The Hellboy films and the amazing Pan’s Labyrinth, comes a dark film that i could think of no better director to bring to life.  Charlie HunnamJessica ChastainTom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska lead up this noir tale. Del Toros vision and style of visuals make a very compelling argument for how creepy and yet hauntingly beautiful this movie should at least, look. He is also one of the best around at world building, and world building in such a way that really pulls you in and if nothing else, you can really appreciate and get lost in that world. A lot of people who weren’t fans of either Hellboy, couldn’t say that their problem with it, was the world building. In a movie like Pacific Rim where we have giant robots righting giant monsters, that could seem and feel REALLY stupid, but the world that he paints them into means we hardly even bad an eyelash about it. So what do you think? Are you excited for Crimson Peak? Did you give it any thought, or would it only have crossed your radar with its first real set of promotional footage and images?
