Review : The Gunman

“A sniper on a mercenary assassination team, kills the minister of mines of the Congo. Terrier’s successful kill shot forces him into hiding. Returning to the Congo years later, he becomes the target of a hit squad himself.”

So if you read that, and if you maybe saw the trailer for this movie, you’re gonna think this is a gun shot fueled action movie………and you’d be wrong. What this movie actually is, is a fairly slow paced, agenda heavy, actually mostly a drama kind of action movie. Sean Penn is JACKED in this movie, like seriously, he got in serious shape for this movie like damn. Even that however, is not enough to distract you fully from the fact that he wanted this movie made for one reason, and that’s to us as a soap box, to preach about a certain topic. That in itself wouldn’t really be a problem, IF, this movie wasn’t marketed as a real action movie meant to have us on the edge of our seats. If it was marketed as a political kind of drama/thriller, then the action that it does have would be a welcome surprise. Also almost every other character in this movie has just about nothing to do. So all in all this movie is just kind of boring. It might not have been if I was expecting drama/thriller, and the trailer wasn’t so misleading.
