Top 10 favs! No. 7!

Princess Mononoke :

In 1997, Hayao Miyazaki gave us one of the greatest gifts in the form of animation we have ever seen, and are likely to ever see. Princess Mononoke is a truly magnificent and awe inspiring tale, told in a way that any one from any where could understand and fall in love with. One of the first eastern great animations to embrace and do a good job at using english voices ( boasting a very solid cast i must ad ).mononoke-2

This movie is gorgeous to look at, and uses a great combination of animation and art styles. It creates these beautiful sweeping animated shots, juxtaposed against wonderful water colour styled back drops. Even with all the complexities of this movies’ narrative, the story is basically a coming of age tale, which is why it lends itself so well to peoples of all ages, from all backgrounds.Mononoke3I don’t think that there should be such a discrepancy between animated and live action feature films, and Princess Mononoke is one of the shining examples of why any feature film this great, should just be considered a great film and not a great animated film. I would put this movie up against any best picture winner when it came out. It is simply that good. And good enough to be number 7 of my all time favs!
