“The last witch hunter is all that stands between humanity and the combined forces of the most horrifying witches in history.”
Vin Diesel has made a few of these movies now. Movies that are meant for his more core fan base, who love his genre work and not so much his more main stream ventures. To be fair, he is totally game in this movie. He really is giving it his full sell. It isn’t enough to totally save the movie, but it does add to the good aspects. There is some pretty good world building here, and they do a lot to try and build a full functioning and realised word for these characters to inhabit. They also clearly spent their money to get the effects they needed, as they were pretty good throughout the movie. It does seem a bit inconsistent however at times, in terms of what some of the characters can and can’t do. It also has a bit of an anti-climactic end. This movie is however a lot more fun, than other movies of this type (looking at you City of Bones), and it should get itself a bit more longevity than those movies because of it. Rose Leslie and the rest of the supporting cast here also do a good job of buying into the world and its mythos in their performance. If you like these kind of movies, then you can do a lot worse than The Last Witch Hunter, not a bad movie, not a great one.
