“A mild-mannered radio executive strives to become the best stepfather to his wife’s two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling biological father arrives, forcing him to compete for the affection of the children.”
Now full disclosure, comedy is a very specific and personal thing. What many consider funny, other will not. This movie is also made by the same people that made another comedy I love in “The Other Guys”. All that being said, this movie is hilarious. It does take a little while to get in the full swing of the comedy, not that movie takes any time to get going, but the constant heavy hitting jokes and belly busters don’t come fast and rapid style until the movie has had some time to warm up. Before i saw this movie, i was worried that some of the characters would come off as really unlikable because of they way they treated Will Ferrell’s character, but its handled a lot better in the movie, to the movie’s credit. The chemistry between Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg is very much like the chemistry I loved so much from The Other Guys, in that both characters are equals even though they probably shouldn’t be, and their back and forth banter is really well done, in my opinion at least. The thing however, that really pushes this movie over the edge for me, into the very funny area are the supporting cast here. Hannibal Buress in particular, is someone that really makes the most out of the role he was given, and really hammers it home every time he in is on the screen. The rest of movie is also filled with great return characters and some cameos that fit and work really well with the movie as a whole. All in all a very funny movie, but understandably one that will play better to some audiences then others, with an ending that had me in a laughing fit, to the point of choking. Lol.
