“A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early.”
So Passengers as all the ingredients for a really compelling and interesting movie, it just doesn’t quite get there. Everything here is solid, the world is rich and well built. There are some moments of real acting in here too, that show off the talent of the small cast here. There are moments of excitement and intrigue, as are there moments of tension and action, but overall, something about this movie is just missing. Everything in this movie is right there, its right on the edge, the cusp of something great, it just never really gets there. You’re not going to have bad time watching this movie or anything like that, but it just doesn’t have those stand out moments that a movie like this need to set itself apart. it just need s some more pop, and its not a fault of the actors or their acting, its the script. Its a tight script for sure, but it just gets a bit plain, and that slows down the movie more than it should at times. Pratt and Lawrence have really good chemistry, and they form a very believable relationship, but the movie could have also gone down some roads that were only hinted at with these characters. All in all Passengers is a solid movie that can entertain, but of you have higher hopes then you’re going to be let down.
