Trailer of the Week! Comic Con Edition!

So I know gave you guys a trailer(s) of the week already, but with all the extra stuff this week, I also decided to give you my pick, for what was the best of all the trailers out of Comic con. The Comic con best trailer goes to…

Thor Ragnarok (Comic con Trailer)

Talk about money shots, this trailer has everything. This trailer does so many things, and it does them all amazingly. To start, we get the full brunt of the new tone for this franchise (Thor movies that is), and in that new tone, we get a perfect blend of the quirky and witty humor of Taika Waititi, blended perfectly and seamlessly with the over the top astral combat that a movie like Thor allows for.

We also get a much better look at all the main characters here, and a slightly better look at their individual roles. This movie sees the addition of a host of new characters, new both to Thor, and the MCU on a whole. This new team of Thor, Hulk, Loki, and Valkyrie, has to team up against the likes of Hela, Skurge, The Grandmaster, and even the fire lord Surtur. This trailer really give us an idea of just how epic of adventure this movie is set to take us on.

The visuals look stunning. The costuming and effects are out of this world. The acting on show here is also incredible, especially from the new additions to the Thor cast, and all of these things together give this trailer an amazing base, that when it hits us with those amazing shots and reveals, each one bigger than the last, that theres no way to watch this trailer and not get hyped up. So what do you think? Agree with my choice for the pick of the litter of the comic con trailers, and did you have another one in mind?

Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

guardians-of-the-galaxy-2-poster

“Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”

Guardians 2 takes us back to the most unique corner of the Marvel cinematic universe, and it does so with some style. This movie is very much like the movie before it, but its also somewhat of the complete opposite to the previous film. What I mean by that, is that Guardians 2 takes the team and the story line to a place where the first movie never went as far as character development, and the relationships between them. The movie here while it tells also a smaller story, it still tells one that has universal consequences. All the main characters are back here, plus some new team members that add a surprising amount of heart and life to the team, and movie, that could have felt a little flat in parts if we only had the original cast here. This is also most certainly the most isolated of all the Marvel movies, especially with the story told in this second movie, which is good and bad. On the one hand, it does help keep the story trim and tight, but it also makes the movie devoid of that extra spark that playing off of all the previous movies in the universe brings. All in all, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, brings us another great soundtrack, some truly special and spectacular visual effects, and a real sense of family, but something about just seems to lack that little bit extra that the first movie had. Also, there are like 5 after/post/mid/during credit scenes here, so sit back relax and enjoy that.

Review : Doctor Strange

“A former neurosurgeon embarks on a journey of healing only to be drawn into the world of the mystic arts.”

Doctor Strange is the 14th movie in the ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it brings for the first time, true magic and mysticism into the MCU. And it does this without fail and in some serious style. The look of the magic, and the way in which it was used was nailed 110%. They really sold that there was a physicality and a heft to using magic, and it wasn’t simply a point and spell situation. It also does extremely well to introduce and create these other, multiple dimensions and astral plains and the like. Part of that was because of the actors reactions to things they obviously weren’t seeing, and then the visual effects themselves were done spectacularly. This movie also does a really good job with the action and those action set pieces, and each characters choreography. The characters themselves were all very well played, and it was their commitment to their individual roles that really sold them and the story line here. Some people might find the villain here more of the same from the marvel villains thus far, and I both agree and disagree with that, but I can’t go to bat for it being an amazing villain either. We do however, get a look ahead at the probably next villain for Dr Steven Strange to combat, and that ones seems like a more likely candidate for a really memorable villain if we do indeed get a sequel about the sorcerer supreme. All in all Doctor Strange is very well put together movie with amazing visuals from top to bottom, but it maybe doesn’t get to the heights of movies like Cap 2.
